Ahead of closing, casinos in Nevada are required to distribute progressive slot winnings, as well as table game funds. Nearly a decade ago, before the closing of The Riviera, the casino organized a special promotion to distribute such funds.

Similar is the case for The Mirage which is expected to shut its doors later this month. As announced by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the casino will organize six days of special promotions, distributing a total of $1.6 million in table games and progressive slot cash.

The total breaks down to $400,000 in progressive table game cash and another $1.2 million in progressive slot money. All those funds need to be distributed among gamblers before The Mirage ceases its operations on July 17. The promotions will run from July 9 until July 13Come from lodislot777. Then, they will resume for July 16.

A Number of Guaranteed Drawings Are Scheduled

Visitors who like table games will have the option to participate in progressive table game drawingsCome from shubbet. The total sum of the guaranteed prizes will be $400,000 and the promotions will require visitors to earn entries by playing eligible table games and using a Unity by Hard Rock rewards card.

Interested players will have the option to secure entries between 11 AM and 7 PM on both July 12 and July 13. The eligible games will include baccarat, Texas Hold’em and blackjack among other popular games. Drawings will take place at 8 PM on the two dates.

On the other hand, there will be $200,000 up for grabs in guaranteed winnings from progressive slot promotions that will take place between July 9 and July 11. After that, for July 12 and July 13, the guarantees will increase to $250,000. On each of the days where promotions will be held, they will start at 3 PM and run through 7 PM.

The upcoming closure of The Mirage is mandatory due to its transition into becoming Hard Rock Las Vegas. Considering the venue would shut its doors, Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation helped organize job fairs through its Rapid Response Program. The initiative seeks to help affected workers find new employment.

The video was released last week, by an online user nicknamed “djbabycakezzz” and quickly gained hundreds of thousands of views, comments and likes. It showed a woman that played on what appears to be a video craps machine. The lucky woman, judging by what is seen in the video, hit the jackpot of the game.

Strangely enough, the jackpot sum displayed on the screen was something that likely no one has ever seen before $184,467,440,737,095,488.00 or a sum surpassing quadrillion dollars. The online user tagged Sycuan Casino Resort, a popular resort located in San Diego, California, as the location where the jackpot was hit.

Jackpot May Be the Result of Glitch, Malfunction

Undoubtedly, it would be exciting to hit a jackpot that is literally an unlimited amount of money, which is what happened to “djbabycakezzz.” Sadly, there’s no casino in the world that can make such a payout nor any casino that offers quadrillion-dollar jackpots, which leads to the conclusion that the video craps machine glitched or encountered some type of malfunction. It’s important to mention that no data suggests that an error or malfunction occurred, but given the number displayed on the screen, this is likely the case.

Earlier this week, Sycuan Casino Resort posted on Facebook a celebratory message congratulating the jackpot winners from last week. Some 40 people hit different jackpots at the casino that were in the range of $5,000 to $25,000.

It’s no surprise that Sycuan Casino didn’t mention the quadrillion-dollar jackpot given that it was likely due to a malfunction. If indeed this was the case, there’s a high chance the visitor that hit that jackpot left home without anything, given that most casinos have strict policies that void bets or wins that are the result of an error or a malfunction. Yet, an official statement on the case from Sycuan Casino as of Friday was not released.

The viral video got the attention of many users online some of which claimed that casinos pay out nothing in case of such glitches or malfunctions. Others found the video quite funny with one user nicknamed EJ Controy writing: “She literally won the entire Universe.” Some joked that the lucky lady won an amount of money that doesn’t even exist currently.

The 2016 cyber heist resulted in the loss of $81 million to Philippine casinos so the RCBC is facing accusations of negligence in failing to prevent cybercrime. It is also facing accusations that it did not implement adequate security measures to prevent the theft of such a large sum of money.

The New York Supreme Court Ruled Only on Its Jurisdiction

The case against RCBC was filed in May 2022 and RCBC argued that the court did not have the jurisdiction to hear the case. However, the court rejected this argument and confirmed that it has the jurisdiction to hear the case, but did not make any ruling on the validity of the lawsuit. The court also instructed both parties to try to resolve the dispute through mediation.

The incident that led to the lawsuit happened in 2016 when North Korean hackers sent 35 fake requests for money transfers of about $1 billion from Bangladesh Bank’s account to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The American bank was able to stop most of the transactions, but five transactions worth a total of $101 million were processed.

Bangladesh Bank was able to recover $20 million, but $81 million transferred to RCBC in the Philippines was lost, and some of it was used in casinos in the country.

The original lawsuit lodged by Bangladesh Bank listed 20 individuals and entities as defendants, among them Solaire Resort and Entertainment City, where some of the stolen funds were reportedly used to buy gaming chips and play in VIP gambling rooms.

However, in 2022, both Solaire and Eastern Hawaii managed to get their cases thrown out based on jurisdiction. Bangladesh Bank has filed an appeal against that decision, however, the court has not yet given a ruling on it.

A Court in the Philippines Unfroze Funds of a Chinese Gambling Company

In October 2019, the Manila City Regional Trial Court (RTC) lifted asset preservation orders (APOs) on the accounts of Eastern Hawaii Leisure owner Kam Sin Wong, Qiaoqiao Wendy Wang, and Dong Na Xu, as there was no evidence linking them to the cyber heist of funds from Bangladesh. It was alleged that the accounts were established to receive the embezzled funds from the Bangladesh central bank.

The Court of Appeals upheld this decision on April 29, 2022. The Philippines’ Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) appealed but the Court of Appeals again confirmed the decision on August 2, stating that AMLC did not provide new evidence to support their case. Eastern Hawaii Leisure returned $4.63 million as part of the stolen funds, but AMLC couldn’t prove the accounts were related to the cybercrime.

AI deepfakes are a growing issue in arenas from pop music to fine art. On Monday night, the Met Gala red carpet was no exception. After stars began arriving to fashion’s biggest night of the year, multiple AI images of celebrities began circulating online, and in some cases it was difficult to discern what was real.

The first Monday in May is one of the most anticipated events of the year, bringing out many of the biggest names in entertainment and fashion. And there are always certain stars whose arrival at the Metropolitan Museum of Art staircase in New York City, to celebrate the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, is especially eagerly anticipated. This year, X users took advantage of fans’ excitement to see these celebrities by circulating artificially generated images of stars including Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez—all of whom were in reality not present on the red carpet.

Early in the evening, the first AI image that began to circulate was of Perry in a floral gown that appeared to be trimmed with moss, inspired by the night’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: The Garden of Time.” The post was uploaded to X at the start of the Met Gala red carpet and, over the course of three hours, garnered over 288,000 likes and more than 9 million views. It was uploaded with the simple caption, “Katy Perry. That’s it” and the Met Gala hashtag.

More AI images of Perry seemingly walking the carpet began cropping up across X. Another image shows an AI version of the singer wearing a corseted gown with a vineyard-inspired train and a key breastplate. This post was viewed over 2 million times and garnered over 94,000 likes. The singer liked both of the posts on X.

Rihanna is one of the most sought-after celebrities on the Met Gala red carpet because she consistently surprises and delights with her looks for the event. But the artist and fashion mogul decided to skip out on tonight’s festivities, as reported by People. That didn’t stop onlookers on the internet from bringing her to the gala themselves, creating AI renditions of what they thought she might wear on the carpet. One user uploaded a photo of the AI creation of Rihanna in a mermaid-style gown with a circular armpiece featuring an embroidered scene of flora and fauna—arguably too safe of a choice given Rihanna’s fashion choices in the past.

Gomez, too, was artificially dressed for the event, in an AI-generated image of a blue, green, and purple gown reminiscent of a butterfly.

While all of the posts have a bit of an uncanny valley effect, their accuracy and detail is such that it is not surprising that many online could not spot the difference. By 10 p.m., the carpet had wrapped up and all of the celebrities slated to attend the gala had made their way inside, so it’s safe to assume that any new photos that emerge are most likely not real. But the evening served as a reminder that such images are a part of our new reality online, and our ability to discern the fake from the real is a key part of media literacy—at least until the point at which it becomes impossible to tell.
